Air-to-Surface rebel missiles 5-13-2013

IMPROVISED MISSILES: A rebel fighter introduces a version of a guided missile they are using against army posts in Al-Qusayr in Homs province, located just 15km from the Lebanese border. “This missile is now guided and can be fired against targets 12 or 12.5 kilometers away,” the fighter says on Sunday. He shows it being assembled, saying it will be used against Hezbollah and the shabiha in Al-Qusayr. 

He says, however, that they have replaced the missile’s “automatic head” [radome, contains radar or guidance section] with a head made with a lathing machine. The missile was fired as a rocket. In modern military a missile is a self-propelled guided weapon, which differs from a rocket that doesn’t have a guidance system.

He says they’ve turned air-to-air missiles, gained from the Syrian army, into surface-to-surface missiles. Battles have recently escalated between the rebels and the army, backed by Hezbollah fighters, in that area. Video courtesy of SNN.
