SEIZED AND BESIGED: An ad-hoc alliance of FSA and Nusra Front fighters in Darra province captured a Russian made T-72 tank and a BMB amphibious tracked fighting vehicle after claiming two government checkpoints in the Daraa province city of Ankhil Friday.
Official state news agency SANA reported regime gains on rebels in Ankhil Saturday, while the pro-opposition Local Coordination Council reported an airforce attack Sunday afternoon on the Daraa town of Dael, 20 km from the outer Daraa hamlet.
Naif al-Sari of the Daraa Media Office told Syria Direct that rebels stormed the al-Mazare and al-Kasarah checkpoints in the Ankhil as part of a “wide ranging attack against regime bases and checkpoints in northwest Daraa province.”
“Ankhil is considered the southwest gate of Damascus,” said al-Sari. “ If we liberate it, the capital will be opened for the FSA.”
