A series of mortar shells rained down on the highway of the upscale district of Mezze in Damascus early Tuesday morning, the Damascus Media Office reported.

Many embassies and consulates line the highway, including the Iranian embassy. No one claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Syrian state media on a car bomb in Damascus late Monday night. A device in a booby-trapped car detonated in the al-Qaboun area, with the official SANA agency describing the incident as a “terrorist bombing” with several citizens killed and injured. The government report of the incident in al-Qaboun was filed just minutes after the opposition-affiliated Sham News Network reported intense gunfire heard near a tank warehouse in nearby Jobar with what it claimed were the Free Syrian Army firing mortars at the facility. The report of FSA involvement could not be independently verified.
