Will Christou studied Arabic and International Studies at the University of Florida. He has interned and worked for a variety of publications and think-tanks and joined Syria Direct in 2019. He has studied and worked in Jordan since 2017.
Today, Syria Direct concluded training its first class of Syrian and Jordanian trainees as part of the Connecting Communities through Professional Engagement Project in partnership with the Australian Embassy to Jordan’s Direct Aid Program.
As it contends with the Islamic State’s (IS) new post-caliphate strategy, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is struggling to deal with tens of thousands of detained IS fighters and their families, undertaking a strategy of community-led releases and calling for an international IS tribunal for prosecution.
