Belarus sends aid to Syrian regime

FROM BELARUS WITH LOVE: A Belarussian plane carrying 40 tons of food aid landed at the Damascus International Airport Wednesday morning, the first in a series of shipments intended to help displaced persons in the Damascus countryside, reported state-owned news agency SANA.

Belarus’s support for Syria “is not limited to food aid, but on the international level we also support Syria’s people, government and leaders in the war against terrorism, against the invading, occupying barbarians who have attacked this land,” the Belarussian ambassador said in a press conference at the airport.

The Aid Council in the Damascus Countryside and Syrian Arab Red Crescent received the food aid, said to contain flour, milk, and canned goods, reported pro-regime daily Al-Watan.

Meanwhile, the aid will head to “the Assad’s regime’s shabiha and supporters in pro-regime areas,” reported pro-opposition news site El-Dorar.

Belarus’s ambassador to Syria Alexander Banumariv referred to joint economic projects between Syria and Belarus during the airport press conference, attended by Damascus governor Hussein Makhlouf.

Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi met with the Belarussian Minister of Foreign Affairs in February to talk about signing new treaties to build factories for cars, tractors and pharmaceuticals, in addition to activating already signed treaties, reported SANA.
