RETURN TO BUSINESS: As the sound of clashes between the Syrian army and the rebels rumble in the background, the vegetable market in Bustan al-Qasir does a brisk daytime trade in the heart of Aleppo.

Just meters away from the Karaj al-Jahiz crossing, the market is located along the only road civilians use to cross from rebel-controlled areas to those controlled by the regime.

This crossing witnessed protests last week in which residents demanded an end to the control of Islamic State of Iraq and Sham over this checkpoint which divides the city.

After the demonstrations, FSA troops moved in to take over the crossing, allowed residents to transport food through it and customers began to return to the Bustan al-Qasir market. Video courtesy of the Aleppo Media Center.
