The battle for Damascus, and, arguably for Syria, is one step closer as the Free Syrian Army clashes with government forces around one of the capital’s main bus terminals, an FSA fighter said on Wednesday. “The rebels are now fighting army forces close to al-Abbasid bus station,” said Islam Allosh, 32, formerly a captain with the Syrian army. The area, in east Damascus, is key because of an intelligence building and an army post next to the al-Abbasid stadium, he added. The FSA’s strategy in Damascus, Allosh told SAS News from an abandoned house his unit is currently based in, “is to gain control over areas one by one.”
