JOBAR UNDER FIRE: This video from Wednesday shows what activists claim is a heavy government bombardment on the Jobar district in eastern Damascus. Jobar lies on the highway linking the east side of Outer Damascus with Homs and other northern provinces.

The government is looking to recapture Jobar from the rebels in order to secure Abbasid Square, one of the key gateways into Damascus. Jobar was originally a predominantly Jewish suburb of the capital, known for its skilled carpenters. The streets are narrow, complicating the possibility of a ground invasion. The regime is relying on air raids to subdue the embattled town. Video courtesy of Jobar Revo YouTube channel.
