An airstrike of unknown provenance destroyed a major hospital in rebel-held Aleppo on Wednesday night, killing 14 people, including one of the city’s only remaining pediatricians and a second doctor, local activists told Syria Direct on Thursday.

The 34-bed al-Quds Hospital, located in rebel-held west Aleppo’s Sukari neighborhood, was “the main referral center for pediatrics” city-wide, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which has supported the hospital since 2012, said in a Thursday press release.

At least three other airstrikes struck residential buildings around the hospital, killing an additional 13 people.

The precision of the strikes and the weight of the payload suggest Russian aircraft were responsible, eyewitnesses told Syria Direct on Thursday.
