Al-Jolani: Nusra does not intend to rule Idlib alone
Jabhat a-Nusra leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani said that Nusra does not intend to rule the city unilaterally and called for continued rebel cooperation, in a recording widely circulated on social media Wednesday.
“We, Jabhat a-Nusra, emphasize that we do not desire to rule [Idlib] city alone. Rather, we are keen that the city be in loyal hands, that realize justice, smash injustice, rule with Allah’s law, and spread council [shura], for shura is the best system of rule Allah ordered us [to implement].”
Al-Jolani called for eliminating the causes of difference among rebel ranks, as “our enemies and those lying in wait for us are betting on our infighting and poor administration.”
The Nusra leader also called for the Victory Army, the coalition of rebel groups who captured Idlib city, to continue their progress towards Aleppo, Homs, and the Damascus countryside.
Al-Jolani stressed the importance of quickly establishing a Sharia Court in Idlib to settle disputes between residents, and for workers in the service sectors to return to their jobs.
IS battling Kurds for Tel Tamar
Islamic State fighters advanced on Thursday in Tel Tamar, a crossroads that connects vital points in Al-Hasakah province and sits on the supply route between Al-Hasakah city and contested border city Ras al-Ain.
IS is fighting the Kurdish People’s Protection Units [YPG] for Tel Tamar.
“Clashes are now ongoing near the school, and in the Seif a-Dawla neighborhood,” Majed al-Haskawi, a local citizen journalist in west Hasakah and member of the Syrian Revolution Coordinators Union, told Syria Direct Thursday.
IS entered the town Wednesday from the southwest side and took control of two neighborhoods looking out over the highway running through Tel Tamar, the activist said.
Islamic State supporters confirmed the news on Twitter Thursday, as did the pro-opposition Al-Hasakah Youth Union.
